Part-Time Librarian

Department: Academic Affairs, Student Success Center
Status: Part-Time
Reports to: Director, Specker Memorial Library & Academic Resources Center

Position Summary:

CCSJ’s Specker Memorial Library provides information resources and services that support the College’s mission and educational programs. The Librarian coordinates and manages library functions to ensure that all Calumet College students, faculty, staff, and administrators have the necessary print and virtual resources to enable them to meet their educational goals and objectives.  The most important responsibilities are creating a welcoming and engaging experience in the library for undergraduate students, who are on campus primarily during the day. Collection development is a smaller part of the responsibilities of this position, but the person selected will be the designated credentialed library professional on campus.

Responsibilities include:

  • Support the acquisitions, cataloging, circulation and retrieval of library materials
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to select new resources for the library collection
  • Manage the circulation and retrieval of library materials
  • Provide information literacy instruction, both formal and informal, in the use of library materials and services
  • Provide reference service to students and faculty
  • Aid students and faculty in the selection of materials
  • Prepare book lists and lists of non-book materials
  • Maintain standard circulation desk procedures
  • Training staff and student workers in public service expectations
  • Plan and managing library activities
  • Provide research training and assistance for students, faculty, and staff

Minimum Qualifications/Experience:

  • Master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited program
  • Program planning experience
  • Experience with diverse learners; a sensitivity and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of Calumet College students
  • Strong research and writing skills
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Strong technology skills – Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with colleagues across College departments
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups, including students, employees, and external stakeholders
  • Ability to lift 20 lb., stretch and reach, bend, manual dexterity

Preferred Qualifications/Experience:

  •  3 to 5 years of progressively responsible library experience is preferred
  • Knowledge of library administration and systems: ExLibris Alma & Primo; OCLC WorldShare ILL and Record Manager a plus
