Empowering Educators with Proven Science of Reading Training to Transform Classrooms and Elevate Student Success

Calumet College of St. Joseph is proud to serve as Northwest Indiana’s regional Center of Excellence in teaching literacy, grounded in the proven techniques of the Science of Reading (SoR) framework. With decades of experience as “the teacher of teachers,” we are uniquely positioned to equip educators with the research-based skills and methods required to meet Indiana’s state-mandated Science of Reading training and certification standards.

Our deep roots in the region and strong partnerships with schools—including the Gary Diocese Catholic schools; public schools in East Chicago, Hammond, and Whiting; and the Charter School of the Dunes in Gary—underscore our dedication to supporting educators and fostering student success. Whether you are a current teacher seeking to enhance your literacy instruction skills and ensure your classroom practices align with the latest standards in literacy education, or a professional transitioning into education through our Transition to Teaching (T2T) program, CCSJ provides the resources, training and support to help you succeed.
